For 11 years, RuPaul’s Drag Race and its beloved spinoff sequence have supplied moments of levity that make audiences chuckle and speed up acceptance of the LGBTQ+ group. However the competitors will be vicious, and with it comes hateful rhetoric and harassment from followers—particularly towards Black contestants.
On Tuesday, VH1 released a new PSA that particularly addresses the bullying and racism queens of seasons previous have skilled. Starring a lineup of all-Black solid members, the clip encourages followers of the franchise to steer with love and follow kindness.
Because the black-and-white video begins, Latrice Royale, Mayhem Miller, Widow Von’Du, Mariah Paris Balenciaga, The Vixen, and Heidi N Closet (trying “blessed and extremely favored,” as at all times) introduce themselves with their actual names and quick information in regards to the qualities that make them human, not simply celebrities.
“I’m somebody who has skilled injustices and racism at a really younger age first-hand. And although I endured these issues, I nonetheless strive to take a look at the positives and take a look at the great in folks and on the earth as a complete,” Heidi says.
